Los Angeles Running Immersion Pack. This pack was never produced, however the insight was extremely important and relevant to my time spent running in East LA. The insight was simple: a lot of people run around Evergreen Cemetery in Boyle Heights. So many, in fact that a previous mayor installed a track-like jogging surface and flood lights to promote athletic activity around the fence of the cemetery. A few things about this insight…Evergreen Cemetery was reserved only for people of color; the residents of this community surrounding the cemetery are mainly Hispanic; the best metaphor we gathered from this is that the young people of this community understand that the best way to not end up on the inside of the fence prematurely is to keep circling the outside. In other words, sport is saving lives and creating healthier lifestyles for a generation that was not growing up with sport as an everyday part of life. You better believe there is an amazing Dia de los Muertos celebration here and the visuals of this pack were heavily inspired by this beautiful celebration.
