Dos Angeles is a running pack inspired by the flow of running through the streets of Los Angeles. Flying into LA, the city appears like a black and white grid that quickly becomes a blur of culture, dreams and juxtapositions when put into the most visceral motion: running. This pack was designed to appear jarring and split, but once put into motion, become something else, much like the nature of traveling through LA.

Los Angeles inspired running pack. LA is where the Gold Rush occurred and occurs daily in many different ways. Here, we explored the idea of a gold rush not just historically, but in the sense of the drive one has to possess to live and work (and run) in LA every day. Los Angeles houses the promise of a dream, a better life and a sense of peace…once you’re out of the horrific traffic. The color story, veneering and graphics represent the at peace feeling many residents feel while running the natural landscape of LA, the hills, the beach, the first thing you think of when you think of Los Angeles. The dream is there, you just have to chase it.

Los Angles Immersion Running Pack. This running pack was inspired by the darkness of Hollywood and depiction of dark glam at an exhibition at LACMA. I became obsessed with reading about Hollywood conspiracies and digging deeper into the history of this iconic place. Although this color story and pack is beautiful, it holds a sense of drama about it and was designed as a female specific running pack as one of my early initiatives to put women at the forefront of performance design. My idea for red velvet sockliners was unfortunately denied.

Los Angeles Running Immersion Pack. This pack was never produced, however the insight was extremely important and relevant to my time spent running in East LA. The insight was simple: a lot of people run around Evergreen Cemetery in Boyle Heights. So many, in fact that a previous mayor installed a track-like jogging surface and flood lights to promote athletic activity around the fence of the cemetery. A few things about this insight…Evergreen Cemetery was reserved only for people of color; the residents of this community surrounding the cemetery are mainly Hispanic; the best metaphor we gathered from this is that the young people of this community understand that the best way to not end up on the inside of the fence prematurely is to keep circling the outside. In other words, sport is saving lives and creating healthier lifestyles for a generation that was not growing up with sport as an everyday part of life. You better believe there is an amazing Dia de los Muertos celebration here and the visuals of this pack were heavily inspired by this beautiful celebration.
